4.  The Puritans  Criticized the corruption of the Church of England.  Believed every individual had direct access to the word of God.  Some Puritans were Separatists (those who wanted to completely separate from the Church of England). The Mayflower Pilgrims who came in 1620 were Separatists.  In 1630, group of Puritans led by John Winthrop landed in New England and formed the Massachusetts Bay Colony.
