3 Direct Quoting: Seamus Heaney’s translation of the epic Beowulf has brought this ancient tale to a brand new generation of readers. According to The Economist, “Thanks to Seamus Heaney’s marvelous recreation, this dark and gloomy work finally comes into the light of our world.” Indeed, this translation is not only a work of precise scholarship, but it is also an engaging read for both students and academics alike.

4 Weaving in the Quote Heaney, who previously earned the Nobel Prize for literature, creates yet another masterpiece translation with his interpretation of Beowulf.
