Lesson 5 – Galilean Travels 4:14-44 In Capernaum vv. 31-43 The people were amazed at His teaching… He taught with authority v. 32 While teaching in this synagogue, He cast a demon out of a man vv. 33-35 His popularity begins to grow v. 37

Lesson 5 – Galilean Travels 4:14-44 In Capernaum vv. 31-43 He continued healing…Peter’s mother-in-law and many others throughout Galilee vv. 38-41 The people sought Him for the miracles… Jesus emphasized His teaching vv. 42-44

The events starting in Luke 5 begin a “new phase” in Jesus’ ministry… it is the start of the 2nd year of His public preaching Ù the “Year of Popularity.”

Lesson 5 – Jesus’ 1st Disciples 5:1-11 The first ones Jesus calls were already disciples of John Jn 1:35-42 Jesus impresses them re: fish vv. 4-10 They had been fishing all night…nothing v. 5 At His command, they catch a “haul” vv. 6-7 “You’ll catch men from now on” v. 10

Lesson 5 – More Healing 5:12-26 A paralytic is healed vv. 17-26 In Capernaum cp. Mk 2:1 Pharisees & other Jewish teachers are present listening to Jesus teach v. 17 A house full of people…the paralytic’s friends cannot get him near Jesus vv. 18-19a

Lesson 5 – More Healing 5:12-26 A paralytic is healed vv. 17-26 They take the paralytic up on the roof, make an opening, and lower him down right in front of Jesus v. 19b Jesus is impressed with their faith…forgives the paralytic’s sins v. 20

Lesson 5 – More Healing 5:12-26 A paralytic is healed vv. 17-26 The Jews reason Jesus was blaspheming v. 21 “Who can forgive sins but God alone?” To prove He was not blaspheming (i.e. that He was God), He healed the paralytic vv. 22-25 This also caused amazement v. 26
