Hyena May 24 th 2010

Introduction Do you know what animal looks like a cheetah with no dots or stripes? Correct… it’s a hyena! Great guess. In this report you will learn all about the hyena’s physical characteristics, habitat and adaptations.

Physical Characteristics The hyena has an amazing body! The hyena has canine teeth. Another interesting fact is they weigh 82-190lbs. Next they are 45 inches long plus a 13 inch tail. They also have very powerful shoulders. Hyenas also have very powerful jaws. Finally if you ever see this animal it is called a hyena.

Habitat The hyena has many habitats and each one is awesome! My first fact is hyena’s live in African savannas. They also live in grasslands. Some even live in woodlands. Finally they also live on forest edges.

Adaptations The hyena’s habitats are interesting but it’s adaptations are really amazing. For example the hyena’s claws are very powerful to kill other animals. After it hunts it has teeth and jaws to eat other animals. Also the hyena’s long back legs help it for running down prey and running away from predators. Another fact is the hyena has a great sense of smell to find animals in the dark. I also hope you have learned how the hyena survives in it’s habitat

Conclusion I hope you have learned a lot about the hyena’s physical characteristics, habitat and adaptations. If you want to learn more, I hope you will research the hyena like I did.
