2 Vocabulary Self Respect- A high regard for oneself because one behaves in responsible ways Self control- The degree to which someone regulates his or her behavior. Delayed gratification- Postponing an immediate reward in order to complete a task. Good character- Using self control to act responsibly

3 Building Blocks of Good Character Compassion- care for others, showing sensitivity to others needs Good Citizenship- Obey rules laws and respect authority and physical environment Fairness- treat others equally and do not take advantage Respect- Treat others as you wish to be treated Responsibility- Do what you promise and accountable for actions Trustworthy- Dependable, loyal and honest Honesty- Refuse to lie cheat or steal

4 Self-Esteem Belief about someone's own personal worth Attitude- Feeling or emotion you have toward something Negative Self-Esteem- Belief that one is not worthy and does not deserve the respect of others Social-emotional environment- The quality of contacts with whom he or she interacts Social-emotional booster- A personal contact that helps a person feel encouragement and support

5 Personality Type A person’s usual way of focusing energy, gathering information, making decisions and getting work done. 4 Categories 1.Focusing energy 2. Gathering info 3. Make decisions 4. Get work done.

6 Focus energy Extrovert - You are energized by people or things Introvert – you are energized by images or ideas

7 Gathering Information Sensor- Person who trusts tangible info that you gather from senses Sensor- Person who trusts tangible info that you gather from senses Intuitive Person – Gives more weight to information from their imagination or insight

8 Decisions Thinker- Makes decisions based on tangible evidence and objective principles Feeler- Goes more on gut feeling and against peoples issues and concerns

9 How you work Judging- Someone who likes structure and organization Perceiving- Prefer open ended deadlines and adapt methods of how you do things. Pg 83

10 Vocab Attitude- Feeling or emotion you have toward something Relapse- Return to a previous behavior Addiction- Desire to use a substance or continue behavior despite negative side effects Support Group- Family and friends come together to help one get better

12 1. If you had to choose, would you rather be the same or different from everyone else? Why? Would you choose the same thing in your school right now as you would when you “grow up”? 2. Is it possible to affect great change if you embrace the status quo {the way things are, the normal}? 3. In our school/youth culture today, how are your peers different from the crowd? Do we embrace those differences or do we usually just make fun of them? 4. What are the things about our world today that have become the normal, but that need to change?
