19. 19 TAX HAVEN?

20. 20 A tax haven is a country or a region where there are hardly any taxes. One main feature of tax havens is that everything is kept SECRET, even illegal things. What is a tax haven?

21. 21 Here are the tax havens:

22. 22 They are used by crooks and large companies

23. 23 Do the money end up in tax havens? We don’t know where Tanzania’s and other resources end up because both the companies and the tax havens are very secretive. Tanzania is in fourth place of countries benefitting on the precious stone Tanzanite. Tanzanit is only found in Tanzania.

24. 24 Plundering poor countries Each year international companies plunder poor countries of 160 billion dollars. As a comparison, poor countries receive 120 billion in foreign aid. The money that is plundered is hidden in tax havens world-wide.

25. 25 Do Norwegian companies evade taxes? The gold mining companies in Tanzania are not Norwegian, but large Norwegian companies have activities in many parts of the world. We don’t know if whether they evade taxes or not. There are no laws in Norway guaranteeing against tax evasions in poor countries.

26. 26 Sign the treasure map Participate in NCA and Changemaker’s petition. Send a clear message to Finance Minister Sigbjørn Johnsen: “I wan’t to be sure that Norwegian companies do not evade taxes in poor countries!” Do not forget to sign yourself!

27. 27 In 2011, the confirmants did half the job! They got more than 15 000 signatures!

28. 28 The Finance Minister personally received the signatures from last year, and had to admit we had a good point. In the coming months it will be decided whether the new rules will be implemented. So it is important that we all put pressure. Your signature counts! Now it’s up to you
