Policy on Sexual Harassment To address federal changes that were made to the Violence against Women Reauthorization Act (VAWA 2013), Office of the President revised the Policy on Sexual Harassment and went into effect on March 7, 2014. The changes that were approved and incorporated into the policy included:  A change in title to “Sexual Harassment and Sexual Violence.”  Reporting campus crime statistics beyond the crime categories the Clery Act already mandates, to include incidents of domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking, as well as crimes motivated by national origin and gender identity. The Clery Act, signed in 1990, was originally known as the Crime Awareness and Campus Security Act. It requires all colleges and universities that participate in federal financial aid programs to keep and disclose information about campus crimes, which occur on campus, adjacent to campus, or off-campus when associated with the institution. Compliance is monitored by the United States Department of Education, which can impose civil penalties, up to $35,000 per violation and can suspend institutions from participating in federal student financial aid programs. The law is named for Jeanne Clery, a 19-year-old Lehigh University freshman who was raped and murdered in her campus residence hall in 1986. The backlash against unreported crimes on numerous campuses across the country led to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. [2] [2] 2

Policy on Sexual Harassment  Providing primary prevention and awareness programs for incoming students and new employees, in addition to ongoing education programs to promote awareness of rape, acquaintance rape, domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking.  Conducting annual training for personnel who investigate and review asserted offenses.  Adopting policy to address and prevent campus sexual violence. The policy applies to faculty, staff and students, and its content will continue to evolve in response to any further changes in federal and state mandates. 3
