I can use effective questioning in my math classroom to formatively assess and give students accurate feedback. I can plan an instructional unit with my colleagues to engage students in learning including differentiation with games and stations, effective questioning, and appropriate grade level/course content standards.

How do I need to grow? 3C ENGAGING STUDENTS IN LEARNING
13
Record evidence you see related to ENGAGING STUDENTS IN LEARNING throughout the video www.teachingchannel.org/videos /high-school-algebra-lesson Using Stations to Explore Algebra Expressions
14
Effective Questioning
15
Goal Develop a coaching plan to help teachers… Engineer effective questions that will elicit evidence of learning
16
Effective Questioning Plan questions that encourage thinking and reasoning. Ask questions in ways that include all students. Give students time to think. Avoid judging students’ responses. Follow up students’ responses in ways that encourage deeper thinking. (map.mathshell.org)
20
Feedback and Questioning Record the questions you hear the teacher asking. http://www.insidemathematics.org/index.php/classroom-video-visits/public-lessons- quadratic-functions/280-quadratic-functions-problem-1-part-bhttp://www.insidemathematics.org/index.php/classroom-video-visits/public-lessons- quadratic-functions/280-quadratic-functions-problem-1-part-b?

Working on Units with Colleagues Work with your group to find high level tasks, Formative Assessment Lessons, ideas for stations & games for group’s unit. Save all websites, documents, etc. in your DropBox folder:
24
Group Share Be ready to share in 5-7 minutes your unit topic (what standards) and the following that correspond to your unit: FALS-Formative Assessment Lessons from the MDC site TASKS from MDC, Illustrative Math, or Dan Meyer site Station ideas for your unit using games or other activities – how to differentiate with skills, questioning etc.? Other websites and/or lesson ideas or activities
25
LUNCH – Return by 1pm
26
Dan Meyer on Real World Math http://youtu.be/jRMVjHjYB6w http://youtu.be/jRMVjHjYB6w What types of task engage your students in real world mathematics?
27
GAME STATIONS You will have the opportunity go to 3 stations. At each station you will have an opportunity to play the game then you will have time to adapt a game to fit your unit… Be sure to save in the DropBox
28
Group Share You will be assigned to share with one or two other groups. Give each group 5-7 minutes to share unit topic (what standards) and the following that correspond to your unit: FALS-Formative Assessment Lessons from the MDC site TASKS from MDC, Illustrative Math, or Dan Meyer site Station ideas for your unit using games or other activities – how to differentiate with skills, questioning etc.? Other websites and/or lesson ideas or activities
