DO NOW: Pick up worksheet on lab desk, read the directions and plot the data to form a line graph. How do you graph a change? #hrs Studying vs. Student Test Grade
2
Objective: How can Graphic Relationships be used to describe change? Handout: Types of Graphs and Graphic Relationship Organizer On back of Do Now.

Rate of Change = change in field value time Measures how fast something changes (SPEED).
16
1. Which line has the GREATEST RATE of CHANGE (STEEPEST)? Line A 2. Which line increased most RAPIDLY? Line A it is steeper = faster
17
Examples: A Car travels at a rate (speed) of 60 miles per hour. Sally traveled 60 miles over a 2 hour period. What was Sally’s rate of travel? Rate of Change = 60 miles = 2 hours 60 miles/hour : Sally’s Rate of Travel ( speed ) is 60 mph.

1.Jo is very sick. She woke up with a temperature of 100°Fahrenheit. 1 hour later her temperature was 102°Fahrenheit. Calculate her rate of temperature change. 2.On an African Safari you track the movement of a Lion between the hours of 2pm and 5pm. During this time period the Lion traveled a total distance of 60km. Calculate the Lion’s rate of movement (speed). Rate = 102°F - 100° F = 2°F = 2°F/hour 1 hour1hour Rate = 60km = 60km = 20km/hour 5pm-2pm 3hours
