Plessy vs Ferguson Case was held in 1896
Involved an african american herman Plessy. Plessy felt that the equal protection of his rights and laws were violated. What he was refering to was the segregation of blacks and whites on railroads. and in turn everywhere else in America Plessy v. Ferguson informational book

The Case The court held that segregation was legal as long as the separate facilities, provided for blacks, were equal to those provided to whites. 14th amendment was intended to give blacks social equality, but only political and civil equality. Brown vs Board of Education
In 1951 Oliver Brown sued the Topeka Kansas board of Education. After many appeals the case reach the Supreme court in 1954, May 17. This case overturned the Plessy vs. Ferguson Decision of “Separate but equal” Protesters at the Brown vs Board trial.

Thurgood Marshall Born July 2nd, 1908
He argued on behalf of Brown and against segregation in American’s schools He was a grandson of a slave He became a Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall

Why Thurgood Marshall important
Thurgood Marshall was important because he was a black lawyer representing Brown in the case Brown vs. Board of Education He won 14 of the 19 cases he argued Thurgood was a man who fought for equal and civil rights. Thurgood in his younger years.

The Impact The Brown vs Board case had a wide impact on American life, it caused wide spread desegregation. Eventually this would lead to equal and full rights and privledges to all African Americans.
