1. Rupreet Anand Reason for War  Russia and Japan were both expanding their countries.  Russian and Japan both wanted to take over Korea and Manchuria.  Both Empires wanted to take over Korea’s trade and government.

2. Rupreet Anand Pre-War Proposals  Russia did not agree to the proposal.  As a result Japan did a sneak attack on Russia at Port Arthur.  Japan proposed to Russia to share the land with them.  Japan said that there would be no war if Russia would agree to share the land.

3. Rupreet Anand Portsmouth Peace Treaty  Ended Russo-Japanese War in 1905  President Roosevelt conducted the treaty  Russians lost  Japan got full control over Korea.

4. Rupreet Anand Japan KOREA ANNEXATION TREATY  Gave Japan control to place troops in Korea  Japan could have control over the Korean government  Took affect on August 29, 1910  Enacted Japan’s control over Korea  Annexation- a country is made larger by adding on another territory to it

5. Rupreet Anand Post Russo-Japanese War  After United States defeated Japan in World War II Japan lost its control over Manchuria, China, and Korea.  The United States was free to trade with both countries.  Korea was divided into North Korea and South Korea.  North Korea became a democratic country.  South Korea became a communist country.
