3 Claims –statements that prove the thesis statement true –Example: School uniforms deny students the chance to express their individuality.

4 Evidence –quotes from a source or real-life experience/observations that prove the claim true –Example Students at Amundsen express their interests through their clothes by wearing sports jerseys or band t-shirts.

5 Citation –a reference to the source you used in your research –author, title, date, etc. –used as evidence to support claims

6 Counter Argument –Bring up the opponent’s argument AND prove it wrong or unimportant –Example Some people argue that school uniforms prepare students for professional attire in the work force. They are wrong, because there are thousands of adults who dress professionally every day. They did not all attend a high school with uniforms.
