Glossary Terms stem-and-leaf plot – displays data by dividing each element into two parts, a stem and a leaf stems – the first part of each element leaves – the second part of each element histogram – a bar graph that has no space between the bars and shows the frequency of data box-and-whisker plot – shows how the data is distributed using the median, the upper and lower quartiles, and the largest and smallest element of the data upper quartile – the median of the top half of the data lower quartile – the median of the lower half of the data 4.6 Other Data Displays

Rules and Properties 4.6 Other Data Displays Data Displays A stem-and-leaf plot displays data by dividing each element into two parts. 1.Record the first part of each element, the stem, in the left column. 2.Record the leaves in the right column. The leaves often represent the last digit of each element. Example 1 – page 202

(Example 2 – page 203) 1.Draw a number line and identify the median and the greatest and least values with vertical lines.

The lower quartile is the median of all data in the lower half (below the median) of the data set.

The upper quartile is the median of all data in the upper half (above the median) of the data set.
