Used to show trends or how data changes over time Example: temperature over time

Example: number of students/classroom

Used to show how a fixed quantity is broken down into parts Parts are represented as percentages of the total Example: % of students with different ethnicity

Value does not depend on the other variable Dependent variable: Value depends on the changes in the independent variable X-axis: horizontal axis; independent variable plotted on this axis Y-axis: vertical axis; dependent variable plotted on this axis
