2. Matter Matter – anything that has mass and takes up space. Matter is made up of MUCH smaller particles known as atoms. 1)

3. Atoms Atoms are the smallest unit of matter. Mostly empty space. Extremely small. 2)

4. Nucleus Center of the atom Made up of protons and neutrons.

5. Protons Have a positive (+) charge. Protons make each element different from each other.

6. Neutrons Have a NEUTRAL charge, or NO charge.

7. Electrons Have a negative (-) charge. Fly around the nucleus. Equal number of electrons and protons.
