2 The Periodic Table of Elements Organizes types of atoms by the numbers of protons and neutrons they have. What are some types of atoms (or elements) you’ve heard of?

3 An Ion is an atom with a charge (+) or (-) Cation = atom that has lost one electron to become positively charged. Anion = an atom that has gained one electron to become negatively charged. Example: table salt = sodium chloride = NaCl = Na +1 and Cl -1

4 Ionic compounds Example: table salt = sodium chloride = NaCl = Na +1 and Cl -1 Find your ion partners and discover what compound you make!
