Does it increase satisfaction of citizens and companies with public services? Does it truly help to offer public services for all? Does it reduce the democratic deficit?

ePSIPlus Thematic meeting, April 11, 2007 Irina Zalisova, EPMA/Czech PSI Watch Challenges of our times Demographic changes (aging population, immigration, pan European mobility) An enlarged Europe, challenges for institutional governance in new countries and for cross-border integration; eParticipation - citizen involvement and partnership, while the risk of democratic deficit has seldom been greater, as well; The future political agenda (continuation of Lisbon Agenda) to maintain Europe’s model of combining a globally competitive market economy with strong social solidarity; Expectations on eGovernment take-up and future calls, on benefits and results of the eGovernment policy agenda.Harmonisation of Local and regional eGovernment agenda New technologies that enable innovative public services and a new division of roles between public and private sector. The EU’s goal is to increase R&D investment to 3% of GDP by 2010.

Not taking the set of public services for granted. To consider both new services, as well as the potential abolishment of established services A different perception of the relationship between the public sector and technology (closer user- involvement)
