Opportunity Art Folio These paintings were visuals expressions of poems written Kansan Langston Hughes and his friend. Critics Review: The critics did not like Douglas’ Egyptian style.

The Founding of Chicago This piece of work was one of his practice murals. Critics Review: Critics found his painting as a very odd style, therefore they did not like his painting.

Aspects of Negro Life: From Slavery Through Reconstruction These paintings were used to tell the story of how Africans were brought to America through the slave trade and struggled for their freedom. Critics Review: The critics liked the painting for what it meant but the style was the one thing they did not like.

Play da Blues This painting was to describe and show jazz music and what it meant to people. Critics Reviews: The critics did not like the unique style of this painting because it mixed Egyptian and Negro styles.

Self Portrait For his self portrait, Douglas uses a dramatically different style from his other paintings. Critics Review: They liked how he made his self portrait in a completely different style from his other paintings.
