As the proportion of working people drops, there are increased pressures on retirement funds, for example. An aging population also means higher healthcare costs. As this graph illustrates, the average age in Japan, Germany, China, and the United States continues to grow. Japan, with the world’s longest average life span, has especially significant challenges ahead.
