1 Felicity Horner Candidate Number: 2148 Centre Number: 30080 Page Development of Design Ideas Conclusion of Developments After developing designs 5 and 4 I feel I am not ready to amalgamate my findings into one final design. This process has been invaluable to me as at each stage of development I made a conclusion with help from my target market which then helped me make decisions for my final design. I developed each colour way, fabric type, embellishment and back fastening. I then picked elements from each development to include in my final design. This will produce a final garment that will meet all my specification point, that my target market like and that can be manufactured sing batch production and is fit for purpose. Colourways Developments Fabric Developments Back view of the garment I chosen to keep this aspect of the design the same as the product will be made from jersey material so it can be easily put on and off. Embellishments Developments Colourways I chose to develop three colour ways in order to give my target market a range of different ideas to choose from. Overall my target market said that they did not like the green and black design as it did mot suit their profile. However they really liked the purple and red design as it uses bright colours that my target market like. In addition to this they also really liked the original black and red design as they thought it was classy and perfectly suited the client profile making it fit for purpose. There I will choose this colourways to use in my designs. Fabric: I chose to develop three quite different fabrics in order to give my target market a good range of choice in their decision they said that they liked the viscose for this day wear garment as they thought that it was versatile and adaptable. They said that they thought the polycotton would crease too much and the jersey would be too stretchy. Embellishments I chose to develop three very different designs. I chose elements from my initial design ideas to create new designs that my target market suggested. This gave my target market many new options. The sequin butterfly also appealed to them however they said it might be too heavy on the bottom of the dress. They really liked the large flower design as this could be used in day or evening wear. They did like the appliqué flowers however they did say that it was the one they liked the least. Overall they said that they liked development two the best as this fitted the specification well and also me all their needs well. Purple and red complimentary colour way. Green and blue complimentary colour way. Red and black complimentary colour way. The target market said they really liked the red and purple colour way and they really thought the colour worked well together. The target market also said that they liked the contrast of the red fabric with the purple belt. My target market said they did not really like this colour scheme as they thought the colours were too ‘old’ for them and did not give the right impression. The target market said that the colours were also too dull to be liked. The target market said they liked the classic red and black colour scheme and thought it gave the right impression. They also liked the element of contrast between the red and the black fabric. Each jacket would be made from double knit jersey fabric. Double knit Jersey fabric Double knit jersey as this will give stretch but also cling to the body for an hour glass figure. My target market really liked this fabric. They thought that it gave the product good aesthetics value, whilst making the product fit for purpose. Polycotton fabric My target market thought that the ploy cotton suited the dress quite well however they did say that it did not have a very good drape and was a little stiff. They also said that it was an in practical fabric to use as it would crease easily and not fit to the body to create the hour glass figure. Viscose fabricMy target market thought the choice of viscose fabric was a very good. It had good drape and could imitate any fabric well. Fro m the simulation it also looks to have good aesthetical value. Purple buttons to contrast with red jacket fabric. Collar in contrast with red fabric. Black backing material with purple sequin embellishment. Strings of sequins will be used to created the design. Embroidery embellishment using gold work for the leaves. My target market really liked this design as they thought that it was simple yet effective. The target market also said that it added interest to the dress. Appliqué flowers Flowers will be made of a soft felt material. The flowers will be stitched on using chain stitch. The flower will be appliquéd using satin stitch. The petals will be a contrast colour to the dress. My target market really liked this design they said that it made the dress look very youthful. They also said it would look good in the shops. My target market liked this design for its simplicity and flare. They also liked the way I had developed the single flower on the original design.. Back view of product The product will have no back seams as it will be made from jersey fabric which will have enough stretch in the fabric to allow it to go over the head therefore not needing a zip of fastening.. Rejection and selection due to target market opinions I have decided not to development designs 1,2,3 and 6 instead developing designs 4 and 5. however I have taken certain features from all my designs. I have chosen not to develop design 1 as it did not meet my specification as closely as the other designs. My target market said they did like the design but thought it should be more modern. Design 2 was also very popular with the target market however they did say that they would like more embellishment on it. Design 3 was liked by my target market however it did not fit my specification as fully as some of my other designs. Design 6 was a popular design and although I have chosen not to develop that specific design I have incorporated its features into my other developments through the use of colour with embellishment. I have decided to develop design 5 and this was the most popular design. My target market thought that it fitted the design specification very well and that it showed a modern take on a classic design. I chose to develop design 4 and this was my most popular day dress design and thought that its shape was perfect for the ‘hour glass’ shape. My target market also liked the combination of a cardigan and dress in one.
