2 Why ageism happens Like most stereotypes, there is some truth to them. Many elderly people suffer from disabilities and diseases such as heart disease, lung cancer, and dementia. Although some elderly individuals may not be as sharp as they used to be, that doesn’t mean that all old people shouldn’t have the right to live on their own, or drive a car.
