Emotion A state of arousal that is defined by subjective states of feeling Affect The pattern of observable behaviors, such as facial expression, that are associated with the subjective feelings. 2

Mood A pervasive and sustained emotional response that, in its extreme form, can color the person’s perception of the world. Unipolar Mood Disorder A mood Disorder in which the person experiences only episodes of depression Bipolar mood Disorder A mood disorder in which the person experiences episodes of mania as well as depression 3

Somatoform disorders A group of conditions that involve physical symptoms and complains suggesting the presence of a medical conditions but without any evidence of physical pathology to account for them Dissociative Disorders A group of conditions involving disruptions in a person’s normally integrated functions of consciousness, identify or perception. 8
