Justin Twohy T.Boone Pickens Has a Plan (or a Clue)
2
T. Boone Plan to use wind to replace Natural Gas Plans to use Natural Gas to replace 33% of US Oil 2008 Order $2 Billion in Wind Turbines from GE 4000 MW Plant in the Panhandle of Tx.
3
Problems Coal Regulations Increased leading to an increase in gas powered plants From 1997 to 2008 Gas fired plants increased by 64% in the US and by 75% Globally
4
Problems Cont To Replace 33% of oil natural gas would have to equal 4.25 million barrels of oil a day NGV (Natural Gas Vehicles) use 1500 gallons of gas equivalent per year To replace the 4.25 million barrel the us need 43 million NGVs that 27 Million more than the worlds NGV Fleet
5
Birds In 2009 Exxon Mobile fined $600,000 for killing 85 birds over a five year period PacifiCorp fined $1.4 million for killing 232 eagles over two year period Wind Companies get a pass One California Wind farm Killed 2400 raptors and 7500 other birds a year Estimated 1 to 8 birds killed per megawatt hour of wind power per year
6
Conclusion Good idea but unrealistic goal Wind companies are exempt from the same laws as electricity and oil companies

8
Questions Was T. Boone Pickens idea possible? How many birds die because of wind power a year?
9
Answers No because not economically possible, would take decades not years Between 1 and 8 per megawatt
