Jeremiah is commanded by the Lord to write the prophecies of doom against Judah in a scroll so that the people might repent - (36:1-3). Baruch is told to write the words as Jeremiah dictates them - (36:4, 18). Michaiah hears the reading of Baruch and tells the princes and nobles – ( 36:11-13). The princes and nobles send for Baruch to hear the words of Jeremiah - (36:14-15). They react with fear and insist that the king must hear these words – (36:16). They tell Baruch and Jeremiah to go and hide - (36:19). After the reading of three or four columns, king Jehoiakim cuts up the scroll and throws it into the fire - (36:22-23). A few men try to stop the king - (36:24). God instructs Jeremiah to write on another scroll all the previous words - (36:28,29). Jeremiah obeys the Lord and writes all the words that had been previously written along with additional words of personal destruction to Jehoiakim – (36:30-32) Don McClain 5 W. 65th St church of Christ / November 15, 2009

For all the people - (36:6,10). To warn them – (36:2,3). Michaiah... heard all the words of the Lord - (36:11). Michaiah went and told others – (36:12,13). Jehoiakim king of Judah sends for the word of God - (36:20,21). The king destroys the word of God – (36:22,23). Men have repeatedly rejected the word of God - (Mark 7:9; Acts 7:51,52; Acts 13:46). Men are still rejecting the Word of God – (1 Tim. 4:1-4; 2 Tim. 3:1- 5; 2 Thes. 2:1-12). Unbelief doesn’t change the fact that God’s word is true – (36:27-29; John 17:17) Men reject God’s word at their own peril - (36:30,31; Deut. 18:19; John 12:48-50).
