PowerPoint Using Transitions & Animation

Transition – The movement that happens as you move from one slide to another. Animation – Movement of text, clipart, photos, etc. within your presentation.

Transitions Move attention from one slide to the next. Add continuity to the presentation. Can be obnoxious if too obvious.

Custom Animation You can use animations with a bulleted or numbered list. This is effective because you can introduce each item individually. It helps the audience stay focused on the item you are talking about.

Right-mouse click to “Custom Animation” & adjust with choices in the Custom Animation box.

Motion Path: You can create a path for your object to follow.

Use Animations Wisely! Does it enhance your message? Only use animation in small doses. Be careful when combining animations and sound.

Remember: Just because you can make something move doesn’t mean you should make something move. It can be obnoxious & take away from your message.

Avoid Obnoxious Animations! Twirling and spinning generally just makes people dizzy. Ever changing font is difficult to read. Just because an animation choice is there does not mean you have to use it.
