TE/MPE-TM 14.11.2013 GRZEGORZ SEWERYN THE UPGRADE OF TT SENSORS C-50 TO THE REDEL CONNECTOR 1
2
TE/MPE-TM 14.11.2013 GRZEGORZ SEWERYN Overview Summary 2 1. What is the proximity equipment? 2. The need of DFB instrumentation upgrade 3. Decision on whether to exchange connectors in the tunnel or in the laboratory 4. Replacement of Cannon C-50 to REDEL connector 5. Number of Cannon C-50 connectors to be modified 6. Validation of the replacement: Continuity and HV test bench 7. Conclusion

TE/MPE-TM 14.11.2013 GRZEGORZ SEWERYN 1 What is the proximity equipment? 3 1. Connection box which routes the current lead temperature sensors and V-taps used for circuit protection 2. Drawing of the PE High current module

TE/MPE-TM 14.11.2013 GRZEGORZ SEWERYN During ELQA tests of RB circuits, lot of HV breakdowns were observed! The breakdown usually damaged the cryo conditioner card reading the temperature sensor. TE/CRG claimed that the defect was mostly coming from the C50 connector which is not appropriate for HV As a common agreement, it was decided to upgrade this C50 connector with a proper HV connector Together with TE/CRG, it was decided to replace the Cannon C50 connector by the REDEL SLGH51 (Lemo) connector After LS1, TE/CRG will consolidate their conditioner card, and the RB circuit will be tested at 2.1kV 4 2 The need of DFB instrumentation upgrade Cannon C50 Proximity Equipment

TE/MPE-TM 14.11.2013 GRZEGORZ SEWERYN 3 Do we upgrade it in the tunnel? 5 During a dedicated meeting among our section, we discussed the possibility of upgrading the PE in the tunnel or in the Lab: Advantages Disadvantages 1.Only one cable disconnection is needed (C50-1) 2.No need to dismount the box from the Frame 3.No risk of damaging the fragile cable segment 1.Poor illumination 2.Very bad access to the PE 3.Dust, noise… 4.More human resources needed

TE/MPE-TM 14.11.2013 GRZEGORZ SEWERYN 5 Number of Cannon C-50 connectors to be modified 16 connectors will be exchanged, all of them have been already delivered. While mounting on the Proximity Equipment, a small metal plate, attached to the REDEL connector, will compensate the difference in size of the previous connector. 7 Fig 3. TE/MPE-TM 14.11.2013 GRZEGORZ SEWERYN 6 Validation, Continuity and HV test bench A dedicated test bench was made for the Redel and Cannon C-50 connector tests. The test bench consists: Laptop with dedicated software HV crate Digital multimeter 8 Laptop with dedicated software HV crate Digital multimeter PE-Box
