6 Start your Summer Salary Add Pay EPAF

7 Nine Month Faculty Calculate Salary: Summer salary from a grant is considered extra work outside the faculty member’s normal working hours or contract period. Most faculty members are on a 9 month contract. The period of non-contract is considered to be 5/16 – 8/14. – These are their Summer months

8 Nine Month Faculty For the period 5/16 -5/31, a 9 month faculty member can earn up to ½ of 1/9 of their annual salary. This can be paid in the May check, as long as the EPAF reaches the Provost’s Queue prior to May payroll deadline. For the periods 6/1 – 6/30, a 9 month faculty member can earn up to 1/9 of their annual salary. This can be paid in the June check, as long as the EPAF reaches the Provost’s Queue prior to June payroll deadline. For the periods 7/1 – 7/31, a 9 month faculty member can earn up to 1/9 of their annual salary. This can be paid in the July check, as long as the EPAF reaches the Provost’s Queue prior to July payroll deadline. For the periods 8/1 – 8/14, a 9 month faculty member can earn up to ½ of 1/9 of their annual salary. This can be paid in the August check, as long as the EPAF reaches the Provost’s Queue prior to August payroll deadline.

9 Example: Jimmy Choo is a 9 month faculty member with and annual salary of $90,000. Can you calculate what his summer salary will be for the months of May, June, July and August? May $90,000 ÷ 9 = $10,000.00 x.50 = $5,000.00 June $90,000 ÷ 9 = $10,000.00 July $90,000 ÷ 9 = $10,000.00 August $90,000 ÷ 9 = $10,000.00 x.50 = $5,000.00

10 Summer Salary Ten-month Faculty Add Pay

11 Ten Month Faculty Summer salary from a grant is considered extra work outside the faculty member’s normal working hours or contract period. Many Department Heads/Chairs are on a 10 month contract. The period of non contract is considered to be 6/1 – 7/31. – These are Summer months A 10 month faculty member can earn up to a total of 2/10 of their annual salary, from all sources during the summer months.

12 Ten Month Faculty For the periods 6/1 – 6/30, a 10 month faculty member can earn up to 1/10 of their annual salary. This can be paid in the June check, as long as the EPAF reaches the Provost’s Queue prior to June payroll deadline. For the periods 7/1 – 7/31, a 10 month faculty member can earn up to 1/10 of their annual salary. This can be paid in the July check, as long as the EPAF reaches the Provost’s Queue prior to July payroll deadline.

13 Example: Cherry Klan is a 10 month faculty member with and annual salary of $80,000. Can you calculate what his summer salary will be for the months of June and July? June $80,000 ÷ 10 = $8,000 July $80,000 ÷ 10 = $8,000

15 BUY OUTS Has the grant allowed for course buyouts? – What % of the PI’s effort is allowed? – What are the funding amounts that can be charged to the grant? – What are the dates of the grant and are there any restrictions written in the grant regarding timing of course buyouts?
