Informative o Provides new information o Increases audience’s understanding or awareness o Informative speeches may be about - People, Objects, Processes, Concepts, Events etc. Examples Medical advances in seizure treatment Top 10 economy cars for 2013 o make mozzarella at home

Persuasive o Speech which is intended to persuade, or influence the beliefs, attitudes, values, actions etc. of others o Persuasive speech represents at least two perspectives on an issue o Persuasive speech attempts to lead the audience to the “right” choice – the speakers perspective Examples DON’T donate to the Red Cross Take a daily multivitamin for your health Why you should make mozzarella at home

Special Occasion o A speech which is prepared for a special event/occasion o May be informative, persuasive or both o Underlying goal: to entertain, inspire, celebrate etc. Examples Wedding toast Graduation speech Grand Opening/Dedication Ceremony
