What Jesus Taught About Praying for God’s Kingdom Luke 11:1-4

The Kingdom of God in the Gospel of Luke The word “kingdom” is found 333 times in the Bible; of those, the gospel of Luke uses “kingdom” an amazing 45 times! Luke portrays Jesus as fulfilling the prophecies concerning the Messiah’s kingdom. (Luke 1:32-33)

The Kingdom of God in Luke Luke shows that the kingdom was imminent Disciples were to pray for its coming (Luke 11:2) The kingdom was being preached. (Luke 8:1) The kingdom was near. (Luke 10:9; Matt. 3:2; 4:17) People were pressing into the kingdom. (Luke 16:16; cf. Matthew 16:19) It would come in the lifetime of those who stood in Jesus’ presence. (Luke 9:27) Jesus was focused on preparing the apostles for work in the kingdom (Acts 1:3-8)

The Kingdom Came in Acts 2 Peter declared Jesus to be King! (Acts 2:29-36) –The church was simultaneously established (Acts 2:47) –The Bible uses the terms church and kingdom to describe the same entity (Matthew 16:18-19). The church is described as… –A kingdom (Colossians 1:13; Ephesians 2:19) –A body (Ephesians 1:22-23; 1 Corinthians 12) –A household (Ephesians 2:19; Mark 3:5)

Praying for the Kingdom Today We are to pray for the will of God to be done Kingdom is defined as “the realm in which God’s will is fulfilled” (Webster’s 7th Collegiate Dictionary). The Father’s will is that men should be saved, and this is accomplished in the kingdom. (1 Timothy 2:3-4; 2 Peter 3:9) God’s will is to rule inside us, and this is what the kingdom is all about! (Luke 17:20-21) Our King demonstrated what it means to do God’s will on earth as it is done in heaven (John 4:34; 5:30; 6:38; Luke 22:42)

Whose Will Concerns You the Most When You Pray? “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. (Romans 12:2)
