1: 3-10 Hold fast to the gospel you were taught that you may experience deliverance 1:3-5 The death of Christ was for our deliverance 1:6-10 Reject any person or message that is different and so interferes with your deliverance
2
1:3-5 The death of Christ was for our deliverance ___________________________________ The purpose of Christ's death was both for our justification and our sanctification. ___________________________________________ It is the basis to make us righteous and bring us growth.
3
The Galatians were being deceived by the Judaizers who wanted to modify the "gospel of Christ" (1:6) (only usage of that phrase)
4
The Galatians were already being led away from the truth of the gospel. _________________________________________ What we believe matters to God. _________________________________________ What we believe matters to our lives; to our justification and to our growth in Christ.
5
The gospel of grace has implications that impact our daily lives. We get eternal life by grace We grow by grace.
6
If our initial understanding of the gospel gets perverted, it will impact our ability to grow in Christ.
7
Judaizers "modifications" Demanding works as a condition for being justified before God. For example, some said they had to keep the Law and/or become circumcised.
8
Judaizers "modifications" They believed, as many do today, that faith in Christ was necessary for eternal life, but not enough.
9
Any gospel other than the one Paul had taught was to be rejected... (1:7-9)...though, there really is no other "good news".
10
Any person who taught a gospel other than the one Paul had taught was to be rejected... That included other apostles or even angels. (1:8-9)
11
"accursed" = "a curse" "Let them be under the curse of God"
12
Generally, temporal judgment __________________________________________ No support from churches or individuals 2 John __________________________________________
13
If Paul's gospel was right, it set the benchmark for all "other gospels"
14
Paul's strong claims explain the book's early structure.
15
Paul discusses: 1) His appointment by God (1:1, 15-16) 2) His instruction by Christ (1:11-12) 3) His message receiving validation by the other Apostles ( 2:2, 7-9) 4) His confrontation of Peter's misuse of the gospel (2:11-21)
16
Every church and individual's claim to truth in the gospel is measured by the gospel of Christ; by the Scriptures......including ours!
