2 National Flower The Nigerian national flower is the Coctu Spectabilis. It is a very common sight in the Guinea Savanna, occupying nearly half of the country's land area.

3 National Emblem The black shield represents Nigeria's good earth while the two horses on each side represent dignity. The eagle represents strength, while the green and white bands on the top of the shield represent the rich agricultural land of the country.

4 National Costume The Egungun association honours spirits of the ancestors and invokes their protection or aid. It is colourful and is woven across.

5 Capital city Abuja is the capital city of Nigeria, with an estimated population of million. When it was decided to move the national capital from Lagos in 1976, a capital territory was chosen for a new city, located near the centre of the country.
