Western Front The Western Front of WWI stretched from Belgium to Switzerland. Most of the “major” battles of WWI were fought here.

Eastern Front The line of the Eastern Front stretched through Russia from the Gulf of Riga into Austria-Hunary.

SIGNIFICANCE: It ended the month long German offensive that started the war. The counter attack ensured that a quick German victory was impossible. When the German movement stopped, this created a stalemate and trench warfare.
