How to use this political guide
Political idealogies are broken up to left wing(liberal) and right wing(conservative) parts. This presentations starts at the extreme left and works its way through the middle to the extreme right.

Liberalism Belief in the importance of liberty and equal rights.
Emerged during the Age of Enlightenment, credited to John Locke The revolutions of America and the France used liberal philosophy to justify the armed overthrow of tyrannical rule.

Anarchism Society with little to no government involvement if any government at all. Promotes individualism and personal rights Anarchist thoughts have been around since ancient china but were first commonly used in the English(negative meaning) and French(positive meaning) civil wars.

Communism A sociopolitical movement for an end to social classes and a society based on common ownerships of all resources and businesses. Created by Carl Marx, impossible in practice Goal of Soviet Union that turned into dictatorships.

Socialism The political philosophy advocating the creation of publicly controlled production. Varies from reformism to revolutionary socialism. Modern socialism originated from an 18th-century working class and intellectual political movement that criticized the effects of industrialization on society.

Feudalism Set of legal and military customs
Feudal lord protected their peasants in return for part of their yearly income. All political and social aspects of life were decided by the feudal lord’s philosophy Feudal estates depended on the productivity of it’s peasants for its livelihood.

Conservatism Promotes the maintenance of traditional institutions and supports, at the most, minimal and gradual change in society. Credited to the philosophy of Edmund Burke Some conservatives seek to preserve things as they are, emphasizing stability and continuity, while others oppose modernism and seek a return to the way things were.

Monarchism Rule by a single person who inherited or obtained the throne Constitutional monarchy – King/Queen rules with limitations put in place by the people in a constitution. Absolute monarchy – the monarch has unlimited governing authority as a political head.

Imperialism The expansion of a country's power through influence and control of foreign lands. Cause of colonization in the Americas, Africa, the Middle East and southeast Asia by western Europe. USSR inclusion of the eastern European states was also imperialism

Fascism Radical nationalist, authoritarian political thinks ran by a single party totalitarian state. Centered around the betterment of the Motherland. Promotes violence and Militarism. Created by Mussolini and the Black hand in Italy
