-Go over rules and procedures for study hall, which are: Bring work and be ready to study when class begins Be quiet and respectful of others Ask for help if you need help If you need to use the restroom or see the nurse, quietly ask for the pass, leave, and return promptly -Last 10 minutes- find out your classmates’ academic strengths

1. Turn in AP summer reading packet (worth 25 points) 2. Pass out Rosey’s Guidebook for Success; go over rules/notebook/honor policy/parent letter 3. Go over homework on Margaret Bourke-White picture, apple, and discussion board 4. Take summer reading quiz (worth 75 points) 5. Go over Jar of Hearts analysis 6. Bring A Walk in the Woods Wednesday

1. Discuss homework and do reading of additional picture 2. Go over “Dog Days” and discuss 3. Assign and work on A Walk in the Woods group activity (p. 70)- due next Thursday; your teacher will randomly assign you into groups 4. Read and score Kincaid essay in guidebook (p. 54)

1. Return summer reading packets, then-- 2. Finish going over Kincaid essay scoring 3. Work in groups on PACAW Chart on Kincaid Essay (on p. 398a); if time left work on A Walk in the Woods Group Activity 4. If time, begin reading “College Pressures” in Patterns for College Writing (we will read from this book, in general, every Friday) WARNING #1: Your JQ#1 is due tonight to www.turnitin.com! WARNING #2: We will write our first in-class AP essay next week; it will be worth 50 points.

1. Hang up and share homework on The Last Lecture 2. Assign rough draft of Short Essay #1 on The Last Lecture and start to brainstorm on it 3. Wadsworth: Do ex. 2B on p. 81 and ex. 8 on p. 91 with a partner; do handout on paragraphs on own 4. Pass out packet on The Last Lecture and begin discussion of it 5. Remember your Journal #1 is due tomorrow to www.turnitin.com!www.turnitin.com

1. Go over course rules and syllabus 2. Complete survey 3. Do SAT/ACT Practice #1 p. 152-154 (#1-15); p. 180-182 (#1-10) in The Real ACT Guide p. 88 in The Official SAT Guide 4. Pass out and begin to work on Packet #1- due next Friday with the quiz

1. Get into groups, work on, and then go over Tuesday’s SAT/ACT Practice 2. Assign and work on in cooperative learning groups on Packet #1: Punctuation Focus: Commas, Apostrophes Vocabulary Focus: Roots, Prefixes, Suffixes The packet is due on Friday with the quiz!
