5 MISSION STATEMENT  The West Bloomfield School District educates students to be their best in and for the world. VISION  We will develop socially responsible citizens empowered to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing global society, and who are characterized by curiosity, creativity, critical thinking and the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate.

6 We believe that:  all children can and will learn.  students learn best through authentic and engaging experiences.  each student has unique talents which deserve development.  equity and access to rigorous curriculum is every student’s right.  inquiry-based instruction fosters critical thinking and creative problem solving.  technology enriches how teachers teach and students learn.  diversity is one of our strengths.  building strong relationships increases trust and positively impacts learning.  inspiring learning is a shared responsibility.  learning together and collaborating as professionals empowers us to meet the needs of each student.  all employees, departments and buildings are interdependent and strengthen our ability to accomplish our mission.  resources must be maximized to excellently accomplish our mission.

7 The West Bloomfield School District will...  increase equity and access to rigorous curriculum for all students  decrease academic performance gaps between demographic groups in content areas  use formative and summative assessment data to adjust instructional strategies for all students.  equip students with the skills and knowledge to contribute, compete, collaborate, and communicate on a global scale  use technology and innovative instructional approaches seamlessly and effectively to support each learner towards academic goals.

8  95% of first grade students and 90% of kindergarten students will read at a secure level by June 2010.  100% of students will use technology tools and 75% of students will use web 2.0 applications to communicate with others outside of the school walls and to expand, enrich, and communicate their learning.  90% of kindergarten and first grade students will demonstrate mastery (90-100%) of the secure GLCE as measured by the district math common assessments (building level common assessments for kindergarten) throughout the 2009-2010 school year.  Students’ scoring secure on the district common pre-assessment with show at least 80% mastery on the extended concepts unit assessments throughout the 2009-2010 school year.

11  Data collection and analysis of math performance.  Enrichment and extension of kindergarten math program (based on GLCE – grade level content expectations).  Research and implementation of guided math groups to further math differentiation.  Development of alternative assessment materials for students that are secure with grade-level math concepts.  Monitoring and development of intervention to ensure that all students master the secure grade- level GLCE.
