4 Version 3.0 Overview: Delivery/Access to the Application IEPT2 Delivered via a web browser IEPT3 Downloaded from LearnAlberta and installed as a local application

5 Version 3.0 Overview: Delivery/Access to the Application Following install users will access and manage the application from where ever they have chosen to install it Once a user has accessed the Install page, the user will: –Click the Install button. –Read and accept the terms of the FOIP Collection Notice. –When prompted with “Do you want to install this application?” click Install. –Select a name and location for the IEPT3 files. –Start creating their learner profiles.

7 Version 3.0 Overview: Technology Users of the application must have Microsoft Silverlight 5 browser plug-in installed in order to use IEPT3 Microsoft Silverlight supports both Windows and Mac platforms in the browsers supported by LearnAlberta.ca Each time the user opens the software from their local machine, the software will check for updates. Should an update exist, the user will be required to install the most recent updates prior to working with the application

8 Version 3.0 Overview: File Storage / Information Management IEPT2 Leveraged “Application Storage” on the local computer so users were not provided with an option as to where their.iept files were stored IEPT3 Enables users to store their.iept file where ever they choose Enables users to comply with local policies on information management

9 Version 3.0 Overview: File Storage / Information Management Users will be prompted with a dialog to specify a filename and location to store IEPT3 data. The file location can be any storage location accessible from the user’s computer. File storage must meet school authority requirements for safe storage of student information.

10 Version 3.0 Overview: Encryption vs. Obfuscation IEPT2 Instituted a 2- part encryption process on the.iept file. Introduced sharing limitations between authorized users IEPT3 Files are secured using obfuscation instead of encryption. Supports some level of security (not being readable outside of the application) while enabling flexibility of use between authorized users

11 Version 3.0 Overview: Encryption vs. Obfuscation File sharing must meet school authority requirements for handling and storage of student information.

12 Version 3.0 Overview: Moving / Backing Up IEPT3 Files The IEPT3 data file has an “.iept” file extension and can be moved, copied and backed up, as determined appropriate by each school authority. Upon loading IEPT3, a list of previously accessed IEPT files will be displayed. In the event that a user attempts to load an IEPT file from the “recent” listing and the referenced IEPT file has been moved, the user will be informed and presented with the option to remove the file from the “recent” listing. The “Open file” button can be used to open the moved file.
