Amphibians By: Brittany Dennis

Amphibian Facts The name of the Amphibians class is Amphibia. There are 3 main orders. These are: Anura (frogs and toads) Urodela (salamanders and newts) Gymnophiona (wormlike amphibians)

Where Amphibians Live Amphibians are found in and around wet, moist areas. All members of this group have moist scaleless skin. They all must be around wet environments to survive.

More Facts The class Amphibia contains over 3500 species. The order Anura means “tailess” so the animals found in this group don’t have tails. The order Urodela usually contains animals with short slender bodies, short noses, and long tails. The Gymnophiona order contains animals similar to earthworms and snakes.

How They Grow Up When amphibians are babies they live underwater. As they grow their gills are replaced by lungs, their skin changes, their eyes grow eyelids, and in some species, the tail disappears. Sometimes amphibians are kept as pets and their environment is being destroyed. Some species are becoming extinct because of it.
