Example: Where is Teddy? Location The relative location of this location is 1 block west of the Frisbee golf course. The absolute location is at the intersection of Spencer Park on Cliff Ave. and the Sioux River. Place People who own dogs and dogs are the main visitors of this location. A wide variety of dogs are usually present. Loud barking sounds are often heard, especially if beagles are there. Owners will often be heard giving commands to their dogs, such as “sit” or “fetch”. Toys are often brought to the park so that the dogs can use them to fetch. Since the park is outdoors, it has weather that varies greatly. Sometimes, the park is muddy or icy. Rules are posted to provide guidelines of acceptable behavior at the park. The interstate and Cliff Avenue are visible from the park. A playground is nearby and the sound of children playing is often heard by visitors of the dog park. The park is fenced in. Movement People and their dogs usually arrive here by automobile and park in the adjacent lot. The main movement involved in this location requires visitors to first enter a small fenced in area, and then proceed to a bigger fenced in area so that it has a more controlled entrance. There are two fenced in areas, one designated for larger dogs and one for smaller dogs. Recently, a paved walkway was added to make this location more accessible to persons in wheelchairs. Dogs are allowed to move freely in the fenced in areas. Often, they are sent chasing to retrieve an item and bring it back to the same location again, and again, and again... People have to pay attention while they are in the park because a pack of dogs may run into them. Region It is part of a uniform region because it is part of the Sioux Falls Parks Department. This is part of a park that is maintained by the SF Parks Dept. but it is fenced off into its own unit which defines it as a region. Interaction Water fountains are added to the area so that people and dogs have access to fresh water during the exercise. Owners bring bowls to fill with water. Baggies are provided from a dispenser to allow owners to remove the deposits of the dogs. Garbage cans are located in many areas of the park. The Parks Dept. regularly mows the park so that the grass is low enough for the dogs to play on. Walkways are shoveled in the winter.
