Fall of a City Elements of English 10 pages

2 Assignment One Be sure to include enough detail to answer all parts of the questions, and to support your answers. Each question is worth five marks. When Teddy speaks to his aunt and uncle, he uses a completely different language than he does when he is constructing his kingdom in his imagination. Give examples of each and describe the difference. What do these two different languages reveal about Teddy's character? Why does Teddy call the king Theodore? What symbolic meaning does King Theodore take on in the story? What is the symbolic meaning of the cut-out figures and the kingdom of Upalia? Explain how the description in the first paragraph of the story is an example of foreshadowing. (See page 409 for a definition of foreshadowing.) What is the theme of "The Fall of a City"? How does this general truth about life apply specifically to the story? How does it apply generally to life?

3 Assignment Two Write a new conclusion to "Fall of a City" starting after the paragraph that ends at the top of the right-hand column on page 133: "His uncle, still chuckling, returned to the living room and picked up his newspaper." Your conclusion should be roughly the same length as that of the original.
