Make the Camera's Eye View your pet’s Eye View Getting down to your pet's eye view helps you to get a better perspective view that is easier to draw correctly.

Unless you have a pro flash setup, don't use a flash. Photographs almost always looks better taken in natural light.

The camera flash, especially up close, floods the subject with light, flattening the tones, leaving you few shadows with which to model the form.

Using natural, angled light when photographin g your pet gives you strong shadows and highlights that help you model the form convincingly.

Take plenty of shots of your pet until you get that perfect picture. Take some extras - wide views showing background, close- ups showing detail of fur and features - so that you have additional references to complete your picture.
