1. Lamp: Indicator light that tells when flash will activate.

2. Lens: Collects light to capture image.

3. Shutter Button: Press this button all the way to take a picture.

4. Zoom Lever: Magnifies or reduces the size of the image.

5. Power Button: Turn the camera on or off.

6. Flash: Provides additional light to your scene.

9. Tripod Socket: Allows you to attach the camera to a firm support.

Emphasis: When something in a picture sticks out by means of contrast (ex. Largest, brightest)

Contrast: Strong different between elements (value, color) Little/no Contrast Showing Contrast

Movement: Path your eye takes in a composition, feeling of motion.

Proportion: When parts relate to each other in size or amounts, relation in size of one thing to another.

Pattern/Repetition: Repeating an element over and over (ex. Shape, form)

Symmetrical Balance: Stability through even use of the elements. (What’s on one side is pretty much on the other)

Asymmetrical Balance: Stability through uneven use of the elements. (Ex. One big thing balanced by several little things)

Radial Balance: Elements radiate from a point, like a sun

Unity: Quality of wholeness (Everything is similar) Variety: Difference in elements (Everything is different)

Rhythm: Repetition of elements to give a feeling of motion

Framing: Capturing a subject while looking through other objects

Rule of Thirds: Compositional rule that places your focal point not in the center, but rather just outside of the center of the photograph.

Depth of Field: The distance between objects in focus in an image.
