Request approval of DASC for Quality IP Study Group Approval Proposal prepared by: Kathy Werner VSI Alliance President
2
Industry Need IP has become a critical component of Electronic Design –Increasing complexity and time-to-market pressure drive this industry need –Support for the IP ecosystem is needed for industry growth Crisp communication of expectations and deliverables becomes progressively more important as the industry disaggregates –Communication mechanism –Common vocabulary –Common evaluation baseline A standard for information exchange between users and providers needed.
3
Demonstrated Need QIP adopted by leading IP providers and integrators (100’s of companies downloaded since 1/06) QIP used as baseline metric in IP qualification tools –VIP Lane from SatinIP –IP Forensics from Atrenta QIP supported on leading IP exchange portals –ChipEstimate –Design and Reuse
4
Proposal VSI Donates QIP metric to IEEE –Currently consists of: Vendor, Soft, Hard (Digital, AMS, MEMS, Memory, I/O & ESD), VIP released metrics, with strawman metrics for software Study group determines required enhancements –Initial IEEE standard based on current mature work –Potential revs for software, detailed deliverable checks, platform level metric
5
Study Group Members VSI Alliance QIP (Quality IP) working group forms seed of Study Group –Cadence: Tom Anderson –Denali: Peter Arnoldy –Freescale: Cesar Duenas, Michael Rodhleder, Kathy Werner –LSI: Mark Buchanan –Mentor Graphics: Kenneth Larson –Synopsys: Zongyao Wen –UMC: Steve Lu
6
Relationship to other IEEE standards This proposal allows growth into new technology areas for IEEE/DASC –Quality metrics for IP –Quality metrics for IP related software This proposal ties to other work in IEEE/DASC –IP descriptions in P1685 SPIRIT –Other? Possible extension to hands-on qualification labs. Chance to extend membership to Fabs, IP suppliers, portals, etc.
