2 Focusing Questions How can we configure our school’s computers wireless settings? What are the steps I need to follow to connect to the school’s wireless signal? Today we are going to discuss the necessary steps to successfully reconfigure Internet settings.

4 Framing The Session Sometimes school laptop users experience difficulty when they lose their connection to the school’s Internet.. This is an inconvenience to both teachers and students.

5 Teaching “Watch me as I show you how to connect to the wireless network.” Step 1: Before turning the power on, make sure the wireless switch on the left hand side panel is pushed forward. Step 2: Turn the power on the laptop. Step 3: After the computer has booted up, make sure the blue light is on next to the green power light. Step 4: On the bottom right hand corner of the screen hover your mouse over the icon for Wireless Network Connection Wizard. Step 5: A small window should come up stating the connection, speed, strength, and status. There should be 3 green signal waves coming out of the monitor icon. If it states you are connected, try opening Internet Explorer. Step 6: If you have a red X on the Wireless Network Connection wizard, right click the icon. Step 7: Click repair. Step 8: It will then refresh the wireless settings for the laptop. Once this is complete a window should pop up stating that you are connected to the wireless network connection (DOETWAC00M001vl90g, etc.) The DOETWAC00M001vl # may change depending on location in the building.

6 Guided Practice Guide participants through the process: “Now it is your turn to try it.” Follow the steps to connect to the school’s wireless connection.

8 Getting Started Tell participants what they will be doing during their work time, and how much time they have: “Take the next 15 minutes to reconfigure the wireless settings on your laptop to these settings” Profile Name: PS55 SSID: DOETWAC00M001vl60g WEP Key: 31R055D5001

9 Work Time Participants will... Step 1: Open Wireless Signal (ascending bars on the bottom right corner of start panel) Step 2: Click on the tab Wireless Networks Step 3: Click on the add wand. Step 4: Click manually connect to an advanced network. Step 3: Enter the SSID code Step 4: Enter the WEP Key Step 5: Establish a connection to the Internet.
