7 LINE  The most basic element of design  Forms the edges or outlines of objects and areas  Shows direction and causes the eyes to move from one point to another

13 LINE  Diagonal Lines  Lines that angle between horizontal and vertical lines  Communicates energy, excitement, movement, and interest  Appear in flooring, wallpaper, roof lines, ceilings, furniture, lampshades, fabrics and paintings

15 LINE  Curved Lines  Part of a circle or an oval  Can range from slightly to very curvy  Reflects organization, eternity, and uniformity  Slightly curved lines communicate softness, freedom, and openness

37 Form RULE  “Form Follows Function”  The function of an object should be considered first in the design process.  Then decide on it’s form.

38 Space  Is the area around a form and inside a form  Different size spaces convey a range of feelings  Large Space Large open spaces give a feeling a freedom and luxury Cathedral ceilings and large windows communicate openness, freedom, and grandeur Too much space can feel lonely  Small Spaces Small spaces feel cozy, comfortable, and secure Crowded spaces feel fuzzy and confining
