4. Therefore … Heb 3: 6-19 (see Psalm 95: 7-11) Hold fast, our hope & confidence, firm to the end (v6) Beware –lest evil heart, unbelief, departing from living God. Exhort daily, hold fast (v12-15) Remember Israelite fathers (v16 –19) –Out of Egypt, could not enter rest, because of unbelief

5. God’s Rest

6. Therefore … Heb 4:1, 11-13 Let us fear, lest any one of you come short entering his rest (v1) Let us be diligent. God has spoken, his word is sharper than any two-edged sword (v11-13)

8. God’s Priest is Elected 5:1 – every human high priest: appointed 5:4 – no man takes honour on his own. –Just as Aaron, must be called by God. 5:5-11 – So was our Lord Jesus: –Appointed by God (Ps 2:7, 110:4) –Prayed with loud cries & tears –Learned obedience by suffering –Became author of salvation

9. God’s Priest is Expected Heb. 7:20, 21. Also 5:6, 6:20, 7:17 –See Psalm 110:4 oath & promise Priest forever, order of Melchizedek –Also Heb 6:16-20 Two unchangeable things Sure and steadfast anchor for our soul –See Gen 14:18-20 for Melchizedek’s story

10. God’s Priest is Eternal Heb. 7:23 – 28 Not stopped by death (v23, 24) Always lives (v25) –to intercede for those who approach God –through Him Holy, harmless, undefiled, separated from sinners, higher than heavens (v25)

11. God’s Son is Eternal (2) Need not offer daily sacrifices –he sacrificed Himself once for all. (v27) Law vs Oath-Promise (v28) –High Priests by Law –many, men,weak –High Priest by oath –one, Son of God, perfect

12. God’s Son is Effective Heb. 8:1 – 10:18 On earth Many high priests (8:3, 4) Tabernacle built by man, only a copy (8:5, Exodus 25:40) At God’s right hand Only one High Priest (8:1) True tabernacle, built by God (8:2) Heb 9:1 – 10:18 more details about new covenant

13. God’s Son is Effective (2) Faulty covenant (8:7-12 Jer. 31:31-34) Made obsolete by God, growing old, ready to vanish (8:13) Better covenant, more excellent ministry, established on better promises (8:6) A new covenant (8:13)

14. Since … Heb 10:19-25 Since … –we have boldness to enter Holiest Place –by Jesus’ blood –through the Veil (His flesh) –we have High Priest over God’s House

15. Therefore.. Let us … –Draw near (10:22) –Hold fast (10: 23) –Consider one another (10: 24, 25)
