Many try to excuse their sin –Defend themselves –Blame sin on others 2 Corinthians 5:10 God will continue to punish the unrepentant –David felt the consequences –Adam, Aaron, Saul were still punished –Everyone who sins and are unrepentant will be punished Romans 2:4-6 Didn’t Try to Shift Blame

David knew he sinned –Psalms 51:3-4 –1 Corinthians 6:18 Many today are reluctant to admit sin A violation of God’s law is sin –1 John 3:4 –We will be held accountable –Sin separates us from God Isaiah 59:2; Romans 6:23; James 1:15 Acknowledged Reality of Sin

David appealed to God’s mercy –Psalms 51:1-2 God promises mercy to those who repent –Psalms 86:5 –Isaiah 55:7 –Micah 7:18-19 David had genuine, godly sorrow –2 Corinthians 7:10 Godly Sorrow Leads to Repentance The heart that will not repent is an abomination to God!

David repented and became great in his service to God –Psalms 51:12-13 We need to have genuine godly sorrow for sin and a desire to conform to God’s will Must do works showing we have repented –Acts 26:19-20 Brought Forth Fruits Worthy of Repentance

God will readily forgive the contrite heart –Psalms 32:5 Prodigal Son –Luke 15:20-24 –The Father represents God in the parable Psalms 86:5 2 Peter 3:9 God is faithful and just to forgive –1 John 1:9 David Was Forgiven

He who covers his sins will not prosper, But whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy. Proverbs 28:13 When we humble ourselves before God, He is faithful and just to forgive our sin
