MCS Dedicated MCS platform too expensive KEARSARGE (LHD) was ideal ship-of-opportunity –Deck spots for squadron of MH-53s –Outstanding connectivity (comms, MEDAL, intel) –No big decks available during OIF CLEVELAND, PONCE and GUNSTON HALL(LPD) –Only 3 deck spots –Inadequate comms for MIW command ship Force flow an issue without dedicated MCS –Inadequate and unreliable C5s

LCS not an MCM Some think that LCS will replace dedicated Long term goal to get men out of minefield BUT, LCS has: –No sonar –No sweep capability –Not designed for low magnetic signature

Study Recommendations Continue development of next generation AMCM systems If MH-60S / future AMCM systems meet schedule and capability requirements, plan for transition of DAMCM to MH-60S If MH-60S and next generation systems do not meet schedule and capability requirements be prepared to fund and execute MH-53E SLEP

CMWC and Homeland Security Coast Guard Supported CDR MH-53Es For Minehunting in Port Approaches and Deep Waters. EOD Detachment for Conventional & WMD Response MCM or MHC Ships To Support MCM OPS in CONUS

Mainstreaming MIW MIW staff and forces included in 9 CVBG/ARG exercises during FY02/03. MCM forces have participated in both East & West coast JTFEXs. MCM Squadron commanders are integrating with BG staffs and SOOT teams as part of BG workup training. Deploying BG are sending staffs to the MWTC MCM BG COI’s
