2 Equal Opportunity Program News Fort Leonard Wood, MO Volume 12-06 EO HOTLINE 596-0601/EEO HOTLINE 596-0602 1 Dec 2006 Did you know? The MANSCEN and FLW Equal Opportunity office would like to take a moment to discuss the term EXODUS. As many of us here in Fort Leonard Wood know, the term Exodus reminds us that is once again a time to ship trainees out to their friends and families regardless of their associated beliefs. As we enter into this season, remember to consider all religious practices now and in the upcoming year. According to AR 600-20, 5-6 The Army places a high value on the rights of its Soldiers to observe tenets of their respective religious faiths. All religious accommodations must be reviewed by your commander. Exodus is the second book of the Torah, the Tanakh, and the Old Testament. The major events of the book concern the Exodus, a departure of Hebrew slaves from Egypt under the leadership of Moses. Jews call the book by its first words Ve-eleh shemoth (Hebrew:) (i.e., "And these are the names") or simply "Shemoth" The Septuagint designates the second book of the Pentateuch as "Exodus" (Greek:), meaning "departure" or "out-going". The Latin translation adopted the name, which passed into other languages. In modern history: Operation Exodus was the Allied operation to bring back European prisoners of War to Britain in Second World War. It began in May 1945 and completed in August of that year. Exodus (ship), a ship carrying thousands of Jewish refugees that was refused entry into Palestine in 1947 Jewish exodus from Arab lands, the twentieth century emigration of Jews from Arab lands German exodus from Eastern Europe, the exodus of Germans to the east of Germany's and Austria's post- World War II borders Palestinian exodus, the exodus of Palestinian Arabs during the 1948 Arab-Israeli war http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exodus#Historicity Training Prevention of Sexual Harassment Sexual harassment violates acceptable standards of integrity and conduct required of all Army personnel and interferes with mission accomplishment. Everyone has a responsibility to prevent this behavior. Annual Refresher POSH Training - to be completed by 31 December 2006. Need a trainer? Call 6-0602. Supervisor Support Forms to EOP for review - required by 29 CFR 1614.102(a)(5). This is reported to EEOC annually. Questions? Call 6- 0602. Notification and Federal Employee Anti- Discrimination and Retaliation Act of 2002 (No FEAR Act - Public Law No. 107-174) requires all federal civilian employees receive/complete training. On-line training site may be accessed through AKO. Suspense for training completion is 15 December 2006. Ongoing EEO Training The EEO staff will be conducting the following training on an on-going basis throughout the coming year: 1. Reasonable accommodations 2. Anti-harassment which includes the No FEAR Act 3. POSH for new supervisors and new employees 4. Updates for mediators and EEO counselors http://www.wood.army.mil/eeo/prevention_of_sexual_harassment.htm
