3 PERSON Scott, mom, dad, parents, teacher, Mrs. Murray, linebacker, baby sitter, model, actress, doctor, computer scientist, classmate

4 PLACES Selinsgrove, New York City, arena, school, movie theater, Pennsylvania, Long Horn Steak House

5 THINGS rockets, desks, ocean, hamster, computers, Academy Award, highway, pencil

6 IDEAS Danger, freedom, love, kindness, dream

7 COMPOUND NOUNS A single noun made up of 2 or more words together Compound nouns may be written as one word, a hyphenated word, or 2 words

8 ONE WORD Daydream, Iceland, landslide, bathroom

9 HYPHENATED WORDS Self-esteem, sister-in-law

10 TWO WORDS Snow cone, Margaux Murray, family room

11 PROPER NOUNS Names a particular person, place, thing or idea and begins with a capital letter Examples: Germany, New York City, Judaism

12 COMMON NOUNS Names any one group of person, places, things, or ideas and is usually not capitalized Example: woman, city, country, book, police

13 TRICKS TO SPOTTING NOUNS Can you add ING or ED to the word and it still makes sense? If it does it is not a noun. Can it be multiplied? If it can, it is most likely a noun Would it makes sense if you took the word out of a sentence and placed the, a, this, these, that, or those in front of it? If it does you have a noun.
