IDEAS Danger, freedom, love, kindness, dream

COMPOUND NOUNS A single noun made up of 2 or more words together Compound nouns may be written as one word, a hyphenated word, or 2 words

ONE WORD Daydream, Iceland, landslide, bathroom

HYPHENATED WORDS Self-esteem, sister-in-law

TWO WORDS Snow cone, Margaux Murray, family room

PROPER NOUNS Names a particular person, place, thing or idea and begins with a capital letter Examples: Germany, New York City, Judaism

COMMON NOUNS Names any one group of person, places, things, or ideas and is usually not capitalized Example: woman, city, country, book, police

TRICKS TO SPOTTING NOUNS Can you add ING or ED to the word and it still makes sense? If it does it is not a noun. Can it be multiplied? If it can, it is most likely a noun Would it makes sense if you took the word out of a sentence and placed the, a, this, these, that, or those in front of it? If it does you have a noun.
