The Girl Who Wanted to Teach: A Resume by Joanne Griffin
2
The Girl Who Wanted to Teach Once upon a time, there was a young girl who was asked to help a younger boy learn how to read some words. Her name was Joanne and she was in Year 5.
3
The boy found the words very tricky to read at first. But once he practised and had Joanne’s help, he was able to say the words quickly and correctly.
4
This made Joanne realise that being a Primary School Teacher was what she wanted to do as a career. She wondered what she could do to make this goal a reality.
5
Joanne needed some teaching experience. This included completing her Year 10 Work Experience at St Thomas More Primary School.
6
Joanne was fortunate to be able to teach the beginner class at her Irish Dancing School.
7
She also became involved in her community by taking part in such things as National Tree Day, Red Shield Appeal, World Youth Day and working as an election official at local, state and national elections.
8
Joanne also had other interests which would help her teaching. These included playing the violin and piano, Irish Dancing and Physical Culture, as well as reading, writing and completing many sudoku puzzles.
9
In the future, Joanne would like to continue her professional development by completing an AUSLAN course at TAFE and tutoring Stage 4 Mathematics.
10
Joanne received a number of awards over the years for her efforts. These have included: -Father John Therry Award- for commitment to her faith and respect for others. -5th Place National Irish Dancing Competition 2004-team choreography. -7th Place State Irish Dancing Competition 2006- solo performances. -Dean’s List for 2006 and 2007- for high achievement in university work.
11
Through her efforts, awards and teaching ability, Joanne is now in her final year at the Australian Catholic University in Strathfield and works as a casual teacher for the Wollongong CEO.
12
And Joanne will live happily ever after.
